but then it proceeds to make adjustments based on some criteria
that is not clear to me. This is really evident when
I do some exposure bracketing and take one picture at
the normal exposure, then the same picture over-exposed
by 2 F stops and then the same picture again
under-exposed 2 F stops. When viewing the pictures in the viewer,
all three look the same?
This default conversion to JPEG is trying to give you the
best view of the exposure in all three cases.
So it will probably brighten the -2 (underexposed) photo.
And darken the +2 (over-exposed) photo. So your three shots
over a 4 F-stop range will all look fairly similar at first glance.
But if you look closely, the +2 raw should show more "completely blown out"
pixels than the normal exposure... And the +2 raw should show
better details in the shadows than the -2 raw.
